About Nomini Bay Oysters-
After 40 years of Federal government service with the Department of Veterans Affairs and five years as an owner/CEO of a private company assisting Veterans, Don Neilson finally retired and moved to the Northern Neck of Virginia to enjoy retirement and the water. Retirement didn’t last long as Don started looking for his next adventure—luckily it was based on his love of the water and protecting it—he started raising oysters.
About the same time, Don met Danny McLeod. Danny has owned his own hotel renovation business for the past 30 years while spending his down time on the water fishing and crabbing. Looking to retire on the water, Danny decided to start raising oysters recreationally. For the past 10 years, he has continued to expand his operations and decided it was time to take his passion and grow it commercially. Over a drink and a cigar discussing oysters, Nomini Bay Oyster Ranch was formed.
Nomini Bay Oyster Ranch is located in Montross, Virginia, along the Nomini Bay. We currently own 119 acres of water rights where we care for and raise our oysters. We started off with a million oysters in early 2014 and added another 2 million in 2015 with hopes of adding more each year.
Over the past year and half, we have been focused on raising the largest, freshest oysters on the east coast for your enjoyment. We are now ready to share the fruits of the Bay with all of you!
In addition to Don and Danny, Nomini Bay Oyster Ranch has a team of staff dedicated to bringing you the freshest of oysters.
